Locherlour Mill
5 Star Luxury Self-Catering in Perthshire
Situated in the stunning Strathearn valley between Crieff and Comrie, this beautiful cottage offers luxury self-catering accommodation at competitive rates. Pets are welcome.
This delightful one-bedroom, two-bathroom cottage has stunning south-facing views and the highest level of comfort and design. It is at ground floor level with no steps, internal or external, so is access friendly. Under the current legislation in Scotland for self-catering premises the cottage is licensed for 2 overnight guests. The cottage is a self-contained annex to the main house, Locherlour Mill a B listed historic building, with its own entrance and the privacy of an enclosed courtyard area. It is furnished and decorated to a high standard boasting character, charm and warmth. Guests also have the use of the owner’s large rear garden (there are steps up to this garden), with tranquil woods at the back of the property for interesting walks and for spotting red squirrels and deer.
The cottage consists of one double bedroom with a 5ft bed (King), bedside tables with lamps, double wardrobe and a chest of drawers. There is an en-suite wet room off the bedroom.
The spacious kitchen/dining area and lounge is fully equipped including a dishwasher and a Dolce Gusto Nescafe coffee machine. Up to four people can sit comfortably around the kitchen table which can be extended if necessary. The lounge has seating for at least 4 adults in comfort with a sofa and three chairs (2 of which are sofa beds). There is a smart TV with Freeview and high speed Starlink Wi-Fi. There is also a CD player and a Blu-ray DVD player. There is a further bathroom with a shower off the lounge area. There are solid oak wooden floors throughout with efficient ground source underfloor heating. There is a washer/drier in the storage room immediately off the kitchen which is also suitable for storing golf clubs and fishing tackle.
Lots to Do
Glenturret Distillery, Scotland’s oldest working distillery, is just 2 miles away and well worth a visit to sample its award-winning malt whisky or enjoy the Michelin-starred Glenturret Lalique Restaurant which offers a dynamic selection of eclectic seasonal dishes and Bar Lunches. www.theglenturret.com
For golfers there are 20 courses within a 15-mile radius. Crieff is the closest with challenging, and very scenic, 9 (The Dornock) and 18 (Ferntower) hole courses. It also has an excellent Clubhouse with a good menu. The famous Gleneagles, of Ryder Cup fame, is just 12 miles away and another favourite is the 9 hole course at St Fillans which was voted Scotland’s best 9 hole course from 2019 to 2022 and shortlisted in 2023 – a favourite of the great Sandy Lyle.
Given the rural location of the cottage in picturesque Strathearn there is a variety of interesting walks (for all levels of walkers) in the immediate area to soak up the natural beauty of the region. There are also opportunities for loch and river fishing, mountain biking and water sports at Loch Earn (8 miles west on the A85).
Crieff is 2 miles to the East on the A85 and Comrie is 3 miles to the West on the same road. Further afield, but with easy driving distance, you have Aberfeldy, Pitlochry, Dunkeld, Blairgowrie, Glencoe, St Andrews, Perth and Stirling. Edinburgh and Glasgow are both an hour’s drive away.
Eating Out
Apart from the afore-mentioned Michelin-starred Glenturret Lalique Restaurant you also have several good restaurants and pub food in Crieff and Comrie (use the Things to See & Do tab above for more details).
